This is a different narrative and history from the rest of the interests that Jem researches, but ‘queenship’ is still neglected even though queenship histories are a larger field of study than the likes of disability. Though, queen consorts tend to get relegated to passing notes or mentions still because of the fact that it was what the queens did for the men around them than what turmoil that they came to face themselves. Queenship history became a prominent part of Jem’s undergraduate degree and is still an area that they discuss and research often. By using the ‘older’ top down approaches with greater levels of surviving documentation from the Early Modern Period it is easier to see why public history tends to focus on certain queens more than others.
